Mr. Rooney
has been a leader in Pennsylvania state government since 1992 when he was first
elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives at the age of 29.
T.J. was overwhelmingly reelected to seven consecutive terms in the
Pennsylvania House, where he earned a reputation for responsiveness, integrity
and results. As a successful representative of the people, T.J. was a frequent
commentator on CNN, NBCs Today Show, C-Span, Fox News, MSNBC and the
Pennsylvania Cable Network. The National Journal called T.J. a
rising star and the Harrisburg Patriot News deemed him one
of the most influential members of the Legislature.
As a
Pennsylvania State Representative, T.J. served on the Aging and Youth Committee
(Chairman of the subcommittee on youth); the Consumer Affairs Committee
(Chairman of the subcommittee on public utilities); the Intergovernmental
Affairs Committee (Chairman of the subcommittee on Federal State Relations);
the Insurance Committee (Vice Chairman); the Military and Veterans Affairs
Committee; the Professional Licensure Committee; the Democratic Policy
Committee, and the Rules Committee.
In addition to his elected
responsibilities, T.J. was and remains heavily involved in the
Democratic Party of Pennsylvania. T.J. was one of the first members of the
House to endorse Ed Rendell for Governor in 2002. T.J. served as Vice Chairman
of Pennsylvanias Democratic State Committee from 2001 to 2002 and
currently serves as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Pennsylvania. T.J. also
served as Co-Chairman and Director of Operations of the Pennsylvania House
Democratic Campaign Committee.
On the national level, T.J. was an
integral member of the Gore 2000 campaign and was a Presidential Elector of the
Pennsylvania Electoral College selected by Vice President Al Gore. T.J. also
served in 2004 as President of the Pennsylvania Electoral
College.
